Safe working load or SWL is the stress that a component of a lifting appliance can safely bear in normal use.
Breaking Stress is the stress at which a component of the lifting appliance fractures or breaks or develop cracks.
Proof Load is the load applied more than SWL of the appliance for testing purpose
So, SWL < Proof Load < Breaking Stress
