Hi Anuradha,

Thanks a lot for great question. Normally, all ship's have a trimming table which is provided onboard for calculating trimming values. The reason is that it is the most quickest method of carrying out trimming calculations. Coming to your question for a situation where the trimming tables are not available, in this case we use the LCG (Longitudinal Centre of Gravity) method in order to determine the trimming quantities and hold distribution. To tell you briefly about the same, the maximum quantity which is permitted to be loaded is determined by the officer by using simple formulae [ (final mid draft - current mid draft) x TPC X 100].
Let us say you want to use hold no 1 and 5 to load this quantities. So, what you are trying to find here is that how much quantity of cargo is loaded in to 1 and 5 so that you have the cargo and the ship finishes on Even Keel. Without trimming tables, you need to use the LCG method to determine the final LCG corresponding displacement. Using few formulas you can determine the final change in trim and final drafts. Let us know, in case you need us to make a complete tutorial on this topic. Thanks again.
